Project Part 2b

Gathering Requirements - User Analysis

1. Proposed Tasks

  • Task 1: Locating the Shuttle Bus Page from the Home Page of UTMSmart

  • Task 2: Checking Bus Availability

  • Task 3: Exploring the Ways to Reach KDOJ from KTHO

2. Persona

User 1: Local Student

Tan Zhao Chuen is a 20-yr Chinese university student who studies mechanical engineering at UTM. He is highly interested in this particular course because of his passion for automation and robotics. Although the subjects in his course are tough, he is able to complete the assignments in time and maintain a 4.0GPA last semester. He has always been a hardworking person and consistently strives to achieve his goals.

During his free time, he loves to jog around UTM campus, especially in the evening. He usually jogs 3 to 4 times a week to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Although he might seem shy, he is actually good at socializing with different people no matter their race. He would also like to joke around sometimes. This personality trait makes him good at communicating and helps him expand his social circle. Tan Zhao Chuen is generally a great and fun friend to be around.

User 2: International Student

Ma Li Wei, a 20-year-old Chinese woman from Zhengzhou City, Henan Province, China, is currently living outside UTM,

studying Bachelor of Computer Science in Computer Network and Security. From the picture provided, she wears traditional

Chinese clothing in the Tang dynasty Hanfu style, characterized by wide sleeves and large lapels, with an overall design

emphasizing smooth lines and natural beauty. Other than her clothes style, she finds studying at UTM less stressful compared

to her motherland's university, and there is only one problem that she faces in Malaysia, which is the high cost of electricity.

In her free time, she enjoys traveling around the world, such as Indonesia, Myanmar, Thailand and Singapore. Recently,

she has been watching the TV series "The Phoenix Walks", which features engaging storylines, vivid characters, and beautiful

costumes. In terms of personality, she is exactly an ESTJ-A which is a good organizer, particularly in time management and

planning travel trips. Her well-structured and planned academic tasks reflect her personality.

User 3 : Off-Campus Resident Student

Hannah is a 20-years old student who lives outside of UTM Campus and a third year student in Diploma of Architecture at UTM. Throughout the day, she usually goes to her class and around the campus using her car since she is already in her third year and was allowed to drive around the campus. She always uses the UTMSmart application for attendance and stay updates to her financial status but she rarely uses it for shuttle buses. Hence, she often forgets how to get to the shuttle bus page on the application.

She always hopes for a more simple and direct shuttle bus page on the UTM Smart so she can use it anytime without forgetting how to find the information about UTM buses. Even though she already has a car, she still wants to learn and know all the buses available and bus routes in the campus so she can always prepare for a time where she needs to ride a bus. Whenever she uses the UTMSmart application, she uses it very well for scanning the attendance, but not for the shuttle bus page.

3. Scenario

Task 1: Locating the Shuttle Bus Page from the Home Page of UTMSmart

It's a warm Tuesday evening, and Tan Zhao Chuen has just finished his rigorous study session on automation and robotics.

To unwind, he decides to go for his usual jog around the UTM campus. As he laces up his running shoes, he remembers that

he has a group meeting later at a different part of the campus. To ensure he gets there on time, Tan needs to check the shuttle

bus schedule. He pulls out his phone and opens the UTMSmart app. Despite being highly proficient with technology, Tan finds

navigating the app somewhat challenging. He recalls that the shuttle bus information is buried within the app, and he's

determined to find it quickly.

From the home page, he navigates through the menu, trying to remember the correct pathway. He clicks on "Getting Around" and then selects "Shuttle Bus." Finally, he locates the shuttle bus page. Relieved, he reviews the schedule and plans accordingly, ensuring he can catch a bus right after his jog. Satisfied with his planning, he sets off for his run, confident that he will make it to his meeting on time.

Task 2: Checking Bus Availability

Ma Li Wei, an international student from China, has just finished her morning classes and is excited about attending a cultural event at UTM. Eager to immerse herself in Malaysia's rich heritage, she needs to finalize her plans. First, she must check the availability of the shuttle buses to ensure she can get to the event on time.

Ma Li Wei opens the UTMSmart app on her phone. From the home page, she taps on "Getting Around," then selects "Shuttle Bus." With a few quick taps, she accesses the shuttle bus page and reviews the list of current bus availability. She sees that there are several buses, labeled A to E, that she can take to reach the event, which perfectly fits her schedule. Pleased with her efficient planning, she notes down the bus information and continues preparing for the event, excited to experience and learn about Malaysian culture.

Task 3: Exploring the Ways to Reach KDOJ from KTHO

Hannah is in her third year of her Diploma in Architecture at UTM and drives to campus from her house every day. However, today her car broke down and needs repairs, so she asked her brother to drop her off at university. After her classes, she needs to wait for her brother to pick her up after work. To pass the time, she plans to stay at her friend's room in KTHO. She opens the UTMSmart app, which she frequently uses for attendance and financial updates but rarely for shuttle bus information.

Navigating to the shuttle bus page feels like a maze. On the UTMSmart home page, Hannah pauses to recall the steps. She clicks on "Getting Around" and looks for "Shuttle Bus." She selects "Shuttle Bus" and then looks for "Shuttle Schedule." Clicking on "Shuttle Schedule," she identifies her current location under the bus name and chooses a bus that can take her from KDOJ to KTHO. She also finds a common location for exchange if necessary. With this new information, she heads off to her friend’s place to hang out and wait for her brother to pick her up.
